App Store Listings
Adapting store listings for Australian users
Check Australian storefront exposure, wording, screenshots and eligibility before updating an app store listing.
Check that Australian customers can download the app and identify the listing they may see. Then align its copy and assets with the features, service areas, dates, amounts and conditions actually available to them.
Identify the page Australian visitors may see
In App Store Connect, open Apps, select the app, then choose Pricing and Availability and scroll to App Availability. Choose Specific Countries or Regions and select Australia if the app should be downloadable there. A customer’s Apple Account country or region determines which App Store storefront they use.
After setting availability, check the status for Australia under Manage in App Availability. An app may not be available for download or use in some countries or regions because of legal or regulatory requirements.
On App Information, check the primary language and added localisations. If English is the only metadata language, Apple displays it across App Store countries and regions; if no localisation matches a user’s language setting, it uses the next most relevant one. An English listing is therefore not limited to Australia.
In Google Play Console, identify whether the Australian-facing page is the default listing, a translation or a custom store listing. Custom store listings can target specific user segments, so check which segment receives each page and align its copy and assets with the offer available to that audience.
App Store vs Google Play: Managing Localised Store Listings
- PlatformApple App Store (App Store Connect)
- Localisation ManagementUse primary language menu to add/edit localisations; screenshots and properties default to primary language unless overridden.
- Preview HandlingApp preview appears on all storefronts unless a specific localisation preview is provided.
- PlatformGoogle Play (Google Play Console)
- Localisation ManagementReview custom store listings and user segments they target; ensure copy and assets match the offer.
- Preview HandlingCustom previews can be assigned per segment or region; otherwise, defaults apply.
Match copy and images to the current task
Lead with a task an eligible Australian user can complete, and compare every claim with the current app and first-use route. Check service areas, dates, amounts, feature availability and account conditions in the description and screenshots; put limits beside the relevant claim.
If appointments are available only in selected areas, write “Book an appointment in selected areas” rather than implying wider availability. Use the same condition in any screenshot that mentions booking.
Use Australian English spelling and terms consistently in descriptions and screenshot text. Check place names, service areas and conditions against the app; a copy change does not update text embedded in images.
When you add an Apple localisation, screenshots and properties default to the primary language, except for the description and keywords. Review the configured assets for each localisation instead of assuming they changed with the copy.
An App Store app preview appears on every storefront where the app is available unless you provide a separate preview for a specific localisation. If none is provided for that localisation, the next best available language’s preview appears instead.
Check any dates, currency, examples and visible app text in localised assets against the Australian offer and the current app. Before release, verify the Australian-facing page, copy and assets against what users can actually access.
- Can a visitor identify the main task from the opening copy and images?
- Is the depicted screen and result available to the intended Australian audience?
- Is a material limit visible before someone chooses to download?
Check the configured listing
In App Store Connect, select the app and use the primary-language menu on App Information to add or edit a language or localisation, then save the metadata. In the platform section, manage screenshots and app previews; use Media Manager for separate assets by localisation or device size.
For Google Play, review the custom store listing and the user segment it targets in Google Play Console. Confirm that its copy and assets describe the offer available to that audience.
Preview the configured page on supported device sizes and compare its copy and screen text with the app’s actual route. Correct any mismatch between a claim and the feature, service area or conditions an Australian user can access.
